Fun Cracker Filler Ideas for Every Celebration

There’s something nostalgic about those classic cracker fillers like fortune-telling fish, mini shoehorns, and plastic tweezers. But let’s be honest – they often don’t last long, and your guests might appreciate something they’ll actually use or want to keep!

For years, we've been searching for more thoughtful and creative alternatives. In fact, our idea for reusable crackers was inspired by a set of xylophone crackers we once had – and they’re still being used in our parents’ reusable crackers today!

If you're looking for fun, unique filler ideas for your crackers, we've got you covered. We even offer a selection of handmade cracker fillers like Resin Baubles and Bookmarks available on our website. But if you're feeling a bit more creative, here are some ideas categorised for every type of recipient:

For Family Activities:

  • Jigsaw puzzles: A personal favourite! Last year, we split an 80-piece puzzle into eight crackers for a fun family surprise. Charity shops are a great place to find these hidden gems.
  • DIY felt crowns: Why not turn your crackers into a fun family activity? Pack in some felt, elastic, sequins, and thread to create personalised crowns that everyone can wear year after year. A little note or joke will complete the festive spirit.

For the Foodies:

  • Cheese and crackers: Turn your crackers into the ultimate cheese board! Just don’t forget the last-minute dash for cheese that needs to stay refrigerated.
  • Mini bottles of alcohol: These fit perfectly in our crackers, which come with a drawstring to ensure nothing flies across the table!
  • Chocolate treats: Seasonal or speciality chocolates are always a hit. Whether it’s a classic Quality Street (a nod to Nessa) or unique artisanal chocolates, they're bound to please. For a seasonal touch, try adding Easter Eggs or Chocolate Crackers (check out our pre-filled options!).
  • Handmade foodie treats: Got a go-to family recipe or know their favourite traybake? Homemade treats like rocky road or slow-cooker chocolate fudge are perfect – just ensure they’re well-wrapped and stored properly to keep them fresh.
  • Warm drinks: Create a hot chocolate station in a cracker! Or for tea lovers, include tea strainers or artisanal tea blends.
  • Honey or jam: Spread a little sweetness at the table. You can easily pick these up at artisan markets.

For the Outdoor Lovers:

  • Handmade birdseed ornaments: Perfect for nature enthusiasts, especially in winter when birds need extra food. On your Christmas dinner walk, find a tree to hang them on! Just include a little note so everyone knows what they are.
  • Flower seeds, seed balls, or herb packets: Thoughtful gifts for anyone with a green thumb, great for spring birthdays or Easter celebrations.
  • Pocket-sized multi-tools: A practical, compact gift for hikers or camping enthusiasts.

For those in need of a little Self Care:

  • Wax melts or candles: Cosy and personalised, these make great gifts. Pair with a small holder for the perfect combo.
  • Handmade bath bombs or soap: Relaxation in a cracker – who wouldn’t love that? If you're crafty, you could even make your own.
  • Lottery tickets: Add a little excitement and see if anyone’s holiday wish comes true!

A Special Tip:

If you’ve got a mix of guests, why not add a small gift tag to each cracker with the intended recipient’s name? It’s a great way to personalise and mix things up!

Whether it’s Christmas, Easter, weddings, or any other special occasion, reusable crackers are a fantastic, eco-friendly way to add a personal touch. You can even use them to deliver the main gift if it’s small enough, like a piece of jewellery or a gift card!

Share with us what you decide to fill your crackers with – we’d love to hear your ideas too! And don’t forget, artisan markets are fantastic for finding inspiration and supporting small businesses.

Happy Celebrating!!
